A Disappointing Start to Preseason

...But that's alright. The way I see it, the first quarter is the only one that had any value. This was the only quarter that the starters saw any real playing time...and they held the Ravens to a field goal. Pretty good for benching Portis, Moss, Haynesworth, and others.

I had the opportunity to interview Tanner Cooley (brother of Redskin's TE Chris Cooley). When asked for predictions for tonight's game he replied "Hard to say. The starters are only getting 10 plays." Which, although not completely accurate, did contain some truth. It is hard to say what will happen in preseason, the starters are really the only ones who will give us a preview of what's to come September 13th. And when they are granted limited, if any, playing time at all, how can we judge the quality of this year's 1st string team?

So the Redskins lost tonight. Oh well. Some good came from it. Collins proved that he's still strong and is not giving up his spot to Brennan without a fight. Kelly and Thomas showed that they are ready to come back and play hard to contend for that 2nd WR spot. Tryon realized that he still has some work to do dealing with the pressures of the NFL. Hopefully these lessons will stay with the Redskins for the next 3 weeks and into the regular season.

For those of you who would like to talk with Tanner Cooley, he will be running a Live Game Chat for all away games "Except SD." (The last game of the regular season, on January 3rd against the San Diego Chargers.) You can find the Live Game Chat at http://www.chriscooley47.blogspot.com/

  1. Well said. There were a few bright points. Orakpo looked good and so did Jarmon. I thought starting O-Line did better than expected as well.
